Use the Multimedia SEO screen to generate and edit image titles, alt text, captions and descriptions for your media files with bulk AI actions (up to 20 items at a time) and a simple modal editor.
1. What the Multimedia SEO screen does
The Multimedia SEO screen is the place where SEO Magic optimizes the text fields of your images:
- Title
- Alt Text
- Caption
- Description
From here you can:
- See an SEO Coverage score for each media item (0–100%).
- Run bulk AI generation for several images at once.
- Open a modal editor to adjust the metadata of a single image.
Availability:
Multimedia SEO is available in the Free and PRO versions of SEO Magic.
It works with the images stored in your WordPress Media Library.
2. Multimedia SEO table: layout and navigation #
Where to find it #
In your WordPress dashboard:
- Go to SEO Magic → Multimedia SEO.
- You’ll see a table listing your media files with a thumbnail and SEO coverage bar.
Controls at the top #
At the top of the screen you’ll find:
- A Bulk actions dropdown, with options such as:
- Generate SEO with AI – run AI generation for the selected images.
- An Apply button to execute the chosen bulk action.
- A Search… box on the right to quickly find images by title or filename.
There are no post-type filters here; the table focuses on images only.
Table columns #
The table usually includes:
- Checkbox – to select images for bulk actions.
- Thumbnail – a small preview of the image.
- File Title – the image title, often with the filename below.
- SEO Coverage – a colored bar (0–100%) showing how many metadata fields are complete.
- Actions – two pink buttons on each row:
- Rocket icon – one-click Generate SEO with AI for that image.
- Pencil icon – Edit: opens the image metadata modal.

3. Bulk AI generation for images (up to 20 items) #
Bulk generation lets you improve metadata for many images in one action.
Steps:
- Use the Search box if you need to narrow down the list.
- Select the images you want to process using the checkboxes.
- In the Bulk actions dropdown, choose Generate SEO with AI.
- Click Apply.
SEO Magic will:
- Read basic information about each image (filename, any existing text fields).
- Use your Main Site Topic and Generation Language from Settings.
- Ask the AI to generate a consistent set of:
- Title
- Alt Text
- Caption
- Description
Built-in limit:
Bulk generation is intentionally limited to 20 images per action, to avoid long-running requests and keep the process stable.
If more than 20 items are selected, SEO Magic will process the first 20 in that batch. You can then run a new bulk action for the next group.
Once the metadata is saved, the SEO Coverage bar for each processed image will update.
4. Per-image AI generation (rocket icon) #
When you only want to optimize a single image:
- Locate the row in the Multimedia SEO table.
- Click the rocket icon in the Actions column.
- SEO Magic generates or updates the metadata for that image:
- Title
- Alt Text
- Caption
- Description
The data is written to the standard WordPress media fields, and the SEO Coverage bar is refreshed.
You can then open the image modal with the pencil icon if you want to fine-tune the text manually.
5. Image modal: editing titles, alt text and captions #
The pencil icon on each row opens a modal editor for that specific image.
Opening the modal #
- In the Multimedia SEO table, find the image you want to edit.
- Click the pencil icon in the Actions column.
- A modal appears with the title “Editing Image: [Image Title]”.
At the top left of the modal you’ll see a preview thumbnail of the image so you always know what you’re editing.
Fields available in the modal #
The modal shows four main fields:
- Title – the image title stored in WordPress.
- Alt Text – the alt attribute used when the image is displayed.
- Caption – a short text shown under the image in some themes and galleries.
- Description – a longer description stored in the attachment entry.
Each field includes:
- A text input or textarea.
- A pink AI button (sparkles icon) on the right, to generate or improve that specific field.
AI buttons inside the modal #
At the top of the modal you’ll find two general buttons:
- Generate All with AI – generates or refreshes all four fields (Title, Alt Text, Caption, Description) in one click.
- Regenerate – asks the AI for a new variant for all fields at once.
Next to each individual field, the small AI button:
- Generates or rewrites only that field, keeping the others unchanged.
This allows you to:
- Use Generate All with AI when the image has no metadata at all.
- Use the per-field AI buttons when you only want help with a title, alt text, caption or description.
Saving or cancelling image metadata #
At the bottom of the modal you’ll find:
- Cancel – closes the modal without saving your latest changes.
- Save Changes – saves all fields and closes the modal.
When you click Save Changes:
- SEO Magic updates the corresponding WordPress media fields.
- The SEO Coverage bar for that image is recalculated and the table is updated.

6. How Multimedia SEO uses context and AI #
When you trigger AI generation (bulk, rocket icon or inside the modal), SEO Magic:
- Collects context for the image, such as:
- The file name.
- Any existing title, caption or description.
- Your Main Site Topic and Generation Language.
- Sends this context to the AI to create:
- Clear, descriptive titles.
- Helpful, human-readable alt text that explains what is in the image.
- Optional captions and descriptions that match your content style.
No visual content of the image is changed: only the text fields in WordPress are updated.
7. Best practices and common questions #
Does Multimedia SEO change or compress the image file?
No. It only edits text metadata (title, alt text, caption, description). The image file itself is not modified.
Is it safe to run AI generation on many images?
Yes. You can use bulk actions to generate metadata for up to 20 images at a time. For large libraries, work in batches to keep things fast and reliable.
Can I edit the AI suggestions manually?
Always. The modal is a standard editor: you can change any field, even after using the AI buttons, and then save your own final version.
Does this affect accessibility?
Yes, in a positive way. Well-written alt text and captions improve accessibility for users who rely on screen readers and also help search engines understand your media.
